Concerns over ban on plastic bags, business community meets with chief secretary G-B

Gilgit ( Ibex report): A delegation of business community of Gilgit city met Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani at his office on Tuesday to share their concerns over ban on plastic bags.

The delegation included secretary general Anjuman Tajran Gilgit, President Shopping Malls Association Gilgit Zaheer Qasmi, president Tradesmen Etihad Welfare Malik Ghulam Hussain and the eader Shopping bags association Gilgit Kaka Jan.

The business leaders while talking to the Chief Secretary said that they are not against the environment-friendly policies of the government but their concerns should be taken into account.

They said the administration should sit down with the business community and come up with a solution so that the businessmen do not suffer any loss and this campaign can be made successful.

They said the problem at present is the existing stock of plastic bags with wholesalers and retail shopkeepers in Gilgit. The government should either pay the price of the stock held by the traders or provide them with an alternative shopper or give them adequate time to exhaust them .

They complained to chief Secretary that the administration is harassing the small traders and causing mental anguish by raiding their shops on daily basis.

Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Mohiuddin Wani listened to the concerns of the business leaders and assured to resolve the legitimate demands of the businessmen.

The Chief Secretary said there will be no loss to the business community. The administration will buy their stock of plastics bags and sell them in other districts.

He said the administration will take the business leaders into confidence and carry out the campaign with cooperation of all stake holders.

The chief secretary assured the business community leaders that their genuine concerns regarding provision of loans will also be addressed.
