Gilgit (PR): A delegation of KIU students met officials of Gilgit-Baltistan Bar Association to seek legal support in response to the university administration’s actions against the students who are protesting for their rights.

During the meeting, the lawyers assured the student delegation that they would offer their legal services for legal assistance.

Expressing their solidarity with the protesting students, the leadership of the bar categorically rejected the university administration’s decision to physically assaulting both male and female students as an unlawful act.

The lawyers warned the university administration emphasizing that students are the future architects of the nation and any mistreatment of them within the university would not be accepted.

They called for immediate acknowledgement of students’ rightful demands and creation of a conducive learning environment. They stressed upon the need for strict action against anti-student elements in the university.

The student delegation thanked GB High Court Bar for its support. They also stressed on the need for strict action against those who have violated these principles.

The lawyers participating in the meeting included President of the High Court Bar Naseem Akhtar Mian, distinguished legal expert Mr. Ehsan Ali, Mr. Shahid Abbas, President of the Headquarters Bar, and several other prominent bar officials.

It is pertinent to note that KIU students are protesting against the sudden increase in fees by the university administration for last one week.

The absence of student unions in KIU is becoming a cause for the students to face difficulties and experience serious educational losses. The students blame the university administration for not creating a favorable environment for student leaders to address the issues.

Reportedly the university administration has expelled ten students who advocated for their rights in violation of the set rules and regulations, putting their academic and professional futures in jeopardy.
