Ghakuch (Akbar Shah): Falling of electric wires from electric poles installed in several places on Ghizer road during bad weather and due to landslides has become a rule rather than an exception.
The water and power department has been least interested in taking any precautionary measures despite bringing the issue to its notice several times.
The most affected area is considered to be in between Hopar and Gupis where the frequent falling of electric wires off the poles has been causing difficulties for travelers and passengers.
In a similar incident on Ghizer road at Sumal village of Gupis Tehsil, the vehicular traffic was blocked for almost an hour because of a fire caused by the falling of electric wire on the metalled road. This situation was made even worse due to rainfall as the current could be felt many meters away from the site.
Despite contacting the staff of the relevant department, there was no prompt response and action to cut off supply from the powerhouse and fix the problem. When nobody from the relevant department showed up, the passengers on self-help put away the current carrying electric wire with help of wood to clear the road.
The passengers and people of Ghizer valley have demanded of the government to take proper measures in connection with the proper installation and connection of electric wires to ensure there is no incident involving human loss or difficulties for travelers.
