Gilgit: Addressing a press conference in Skardu on Wednesday, former chief minister G-B Hafiz Hafizur Rahman expressed his reservations over the complete silence observed by the opposition members during the budget session.
He questioned opposition members if it was an increase in their salaries or acceptance of proposed schemes in their constituencies for their questionable silence despite shortcomings in the new budget.
He said development schemes are the right of the people and the fundamental duty of any government. Development schemes cannot be an excuse for shutting eyes to the incompetence and loot being committed by the selected CM and his team.
He asked the opposition leader to call a meeting of the parliamentary members of opposition parties to reflect and see if they had acted as an accomplice in the wrongdoings of the selected CM because he increased their salaries.
He said the total budget is Rs. 12 billion. There is an amount of Rs. 160 billion as thorough forward from which Rs. 0.40 billion worth of schemes are said to be given to each member assembly. In short, it is Rs. 12 billion development and Rs. 47 billion non-development budget. Similarly, Rs. 8 billion and Rs, 2 billion are reserved for wheat subsidy and AFAD projects. Rest is a fraud.
He thanked Fed. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for his role in limiting Chief Minister G-B to his home province.
Former CM G-B said the opposition did not initiate any no-confidence move against the selected chief minister of G-B. It were PTI members of GBLA who approached the opposition to help in overthrowing their selected chief minister. Imran Khan called them while the disgruntled members of PTI were meeting us.
He said PML(N)’s stand with reference to the appointment of a new CM is clear. We would support it if a member from the opposition is nominated for the CM slot. We will play no role in the election of the new CM if the candidate comes from within PTI.
