Gilgit (PR): During its 3rd session, presided over by Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan, the Gilgit-Baltistan Cabinet granted approval for the draft of the National Hazardous Waste Management Policy 2022 and the Gilgit-Baltistan Rangeland Policy 2023.
The meeting also approved the establishment of Special Protection Units (SPU) for G-B Police, as mandated by the Supreme Appellate Court’s ruling related to timber transportation. Furthermore, the Cabinet resolved to ensure the implementation of its decisions.
During the Cabinet session, the proposal for allocating land to Pakistan State Oil (PSO) to establish a bulk depot in Skardu-Baltistan was discussed. Additionally, the meeting resolved to formulate a policy aimed at enhancing power supply by utilizing the revenue generated from electric bills in its next session.
During the Cabinet meeting, it was agreed that a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be formalized among the Minerals, Industries, Commerce, and Labor departments of Gilgit-Baltistan and the Strategic Plan Division (SPD).
The session condemned the recent violent attack on Hafiz Hamdullah yesterday. The cabinet members offered condolences on the passing away of brother of GB assembly Fazal Rahim and recited Fatiha for the departed soul.
The Cabinet members held a press conference after the session. Addressing the press conference, Syed Sohail Abbas Shah and Iman Shah said that the development of the region is top priority of G-B government and concerted efforts are made in line with the instructions of C M G-B in this regard.
Cabinet members appreciated the role of scholars, journalists, and responsible members of society in maintaining peace and security in Gilgit-Baltistan. They stressed that it’s a duty of everyone to play constructive role in the overall development of society.
They reaffirmed government’s resolve to deal with the elements conspiring to sabotage the peace of region with iron hand. “Any actions against the government’s authority will be met with consequences, and challenges to its authority will not be tolerated”, further added the cabinet members during press conference.
The provincial ministers reaffirmed their commitment that the entire cabinet, led by Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, will collaborate diligently for the betterment and welfare of the populace.
They assured that the public will soon witness tangible outcomes resulting from the effective measures undertaken by the G-B government.
