Gilgit (PR): Through an official notification, the Finance Division Islamabad has confirmed its commitment to compensate for the shortage in wheat subsidy for Gilgit-Baltistan in the third quarter of the 2023-24 fiscal year.
The implementation will follow discussions between the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan and the Secretary of the Finance Division, in accordance with the determinations made by the Economic Liaison Committee.
Regarding the wheat shortage, Iman Shah, the Information Minister G-B, also assured the supply of subsidized wheat in the region would have no issue. The government is fully aware of the public problems and is committed to address them.
Talking to media, he said the G-B government has already imposed a ban on wheat transportation outside the region, aiming at ensuring a transparent and fair distribution of wheat among the local population. Apart from proper distribution of wheat, this measure would also ensure legal action against those involved in wheat crisis through smuggling.
Information Minister G-B also appealed to the people to help identify the elements involved in the illegal sale and hoarding of wheat for government to address wheat crisis in the region.
