Gilgit: Despite the start of the new academic session in schools, books are unavailable in the market across GB. Due to the unavailability of books, the teaching-learning process has been disturbed. Because textbooks serve as the only teaching-learning resource in the public sector schools.
The government of Gilgit-Baltistan allocates billions of rupees for the free provision of textbooks annually. Punjab Text Book Board publishes these books on orders placed by the provincial government. However, this year despite orders, put in place well before time, the stock of books has not been provided by the board.
It was informed earlier that textbooks would be given to students in the first week of June. However, the Education department and government have not followed the matter to ensure the timely provision of textbooks.
Parents have called this gross negligence on behalf of the government and education department an act of anti-education approach. According to them, the low-quality education in public sectors and now delay in the provision of textbooks have put the future of their children at stake.
Parents have demanded from Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khursheed, Minister Education GB Raja Azam Khan, and Secretary Education, GB to provide textbooks before the start of summer vacations to prevent further wastage of precious time of their children.
