Gilgit (PR): Just like in various other countries of the world, Ismaili Civic Day was also celebrated across Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday. In this regard, a ceremony followed by tree plantation and environmental walk was organized in Gilgit city.
Presided over by Special Assisstant to Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, the event was attended by representatives of different schools of thought, political parties and civil society.
The event was addressed by president Ismaili Council Engineer Iqbal Rasool, President Shia Imamia Association Sajid Ali Baig, General Secretary Jamat-e-Islami Gilgit Fazal ur Rahman and others.
While addressing the ceremony, the speakers expressed their admiration for the initiative, calling it a commendable effort to be followed by all. They highlighted the significance of Ismaili Civic Day in nurturing a pristine and attractive environment.
Speaking on the occasion, the organizers said this event has been observed for centuries worldwide as part of a longstanding tradition. It serves as a platform for Ismaili Volunteers, Boy Scouts, and Girl Guides to collaborate with other communities in taking proactive steps to address environmental pollution.
After the ceremony, the participants of the event and Boy Scouts took a walk to the Unity Square. During the walk the participants took part in cleanliness and plantation activity.
It is pertinent to note that this annual observance is marked in 33 countries across the globe every year on September 24.
