Chilas (Ibex report): A delegation of journalists from Diamir district of Gilgit-Baltistan met Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) engineer lieutenant general Sajjad Ghani (Retd) at Wapda House Lahore.

The efficacy of Diamir-Basha dam project came under discussion in the meeting between the journalist of Diamir and chairman WAPDA.

 During the meeting, chairman WAPDA talked about the initiatives taken for the socio-economic development of the local people in project area and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Talking to journalist, the chairman WAPDA said he would ensure supply of stove package to all deserving people in the project area.

During the meeting, he said only local people will be recruited for all the posts from Grade 1 to Grade 10 for Diamir-Basha dam project. Similarly, the contractual workers for the project will get appointed on annual basis. Previously, WAPDA used to renew the contract of the labourers after every three months.

WAPDA has provided Rs. 6 billion to the Gilgit-Baltistan government for provision of drinking water and drainage facilities in Chilas city of Diamir district.

He further said WAPDA will regularize the temporary employees of the Diamir-Basha dam as per the rules and regulations of the Government of Pakistan.

WAPDA has provided Rs. 6 billion to the Gilgit-Baltistan government for provision of drinking water and drainage facilities in Chilas city of Diamir district, said chairman WAPDA.

 Lauding the sacrifices of local people for a national project like Diamir-Basha dam he said WAPDA will always treat local people with sincerity.
