Federal home minister Rana Sanaullah visits Diamir Basha dam site

Gilgit (Akbar Shah): Federal Home Minister Rana Sanaullah visited Diamir Basha dam site on Monday. Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani along with IGP Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) welcomed the Federal Interior Minister.

The federal minister was accompanied by the interior secretary, chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), IG KP ,K and IG Frontier Corps. The divisional and district administrations of both KPK and G-B provinces were also present on the occasion.

The Federal Minister was given a briefing about the progress of the ongoing work on the dam, the security of Chinese engineers, and other important matters about the construction of the dam. The federal minister was informed about the security apparatus in implementation for the security of Chinese engineers and workers by the WAPDA.

On this occasion, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani, while expressing his views regarding the project, told the Federal Minister and the participants that we have implemented very strict and effective security measures for the engineers and Chinese working on the dam as per the framework of the provincial government. Steps have been taken. Despite the acute shortage of police personnel in Diamar district, 190 police personnel have been attached to the Diamar-Basha Dam Task Force.

 On this occasion, he requested the Home Minister to take steps for immediate approval of the request for creation of 700 posts of CTD, which has already been submitted to the Federal Ministry of Finance, to improve the security apparatus in GB.

On this occasion, the Chief Secretary G-B proposed creation of additional 400 security posts specifically for Diamar district. Chief secretary said the measure would improve the overall security situation in Diamar district and provide more manpower to the Dam Security Task Force. He said, the number of Chinese workers will increase from 380 to about 1000 in coming months.

 On proposals of chief secretary G-B, the interior Minister Rana Sanaullah promised to present proposals to the prime minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for immediate approval.

He said steps taken by the provincial government and WAPDA despite the unstable economic and adverse conditions are commendable.
