The newly elected chief minister Gilgit-Baltistan expresses intention to meet PM Pakistan

Gilgit (Monitoring Desk): While giving an interview with a private TV channel, the newly elected chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Haji Gulbar Khan said he would meet the prime minister to secure a mega package for the development of Gilgit-Baltistan.

He said that special attention will be given to the development of the tourism sector in the region during his tenure.

In response to a question, he said the former CM Khalid Khurshid was better than him. However, it is pointless to discuss about him now at this stage.

He said the Diamar district is a backward area that had not been given any major post before this. Now with the support of the PDM and his colleagues some one from Diamir has been elected him as the Leader of the House.

He further said that the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly came into existence under the Governance Order 2018. According to the order, the people have given a mandate for five years which they will complete as the assembly will continue for another two and a half years as per the law.

Responding to another question, the newly elected CM said the conduction of the CM election on July 5 was stopped by a court order. Instead of issuing a schedule as per the law, the assembly session for election was called overnight, against which he obtained an injunction from the court.
