Karachi (PR), May 30, 2022: The Anjuman Asateza Abdul Haq Campus rejects a cut of Rs. 30 billion from Rs. 65 billion. In a press release shared with Ibex Times, the newly elected president of the Anjuman Asatiza has expressed his resentment. He declares an almost 50% cut in the fund on part of the federal government an anti-education act.
According to Faisal Javed, the cut in the higher education grant is a conspiracy against the future of the nation and an attempt to deprive the young minds of education and research. The recent act is condemnable and will be resisted by the teachers.
With the implementation of the recent decision, the universities will face severe financial losses directly resulting in fee hikes unaffordable for the students, states the press release.
According to the press release, the development work in universities will come to a halt with a severe adverse impact on higher education and research. Similarly, the difficulties of retired employees will be further exacerbated and it will be difficult to ensure health facilities for in-service and retired staff.
The budget allocation for education has been much lower than the often announced allocation of 4% of GDP. With the recent announcement of an almost 50% cut, the current federal government will be the first to allocate the record lowest fund allocation for education.
The incumbent government has also failed to control the ever-increasing inflation in the country. In the face of a direct cut in educational grants and severe jolts of inflation, the coming budget will be a negative budget.
Instead of introducing a cut in the educational grant, unnecessary sending should be avoided. The educational funds should be considered investments for future-making.
