Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan presiding second cabinet meeting through video link from Islamabad

Gilgit (C.R Akbar Shah): The second cabinet meeting of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) government took place under on Monday. The meeting was conducted online in which chief minister G-B participated from Islamabad.

Cabinet members offered prayers in the meeting for the recovery of the martyrs and injured in yesterday’s terrorist incident in Bajaur Agency.

While addressing the meeting, CM G-B lauded the role of Provincial Cabinet Committee, Home Secretary, IGP Gilgit-Baltistan, intelligence and law enforcement agencies, and religious scholars in creating an environment of brotherhood and peace in G-B.

A provincial-level committee was formed in the meeting to as the damages caused by recent rains and floods in Gilgit-Baltistan. The committee will evaluate the recovery works on merit to ensure transparency and avoid unnecessary burden on the treasury.

The cabinet meeting also discussed permanent appointment of judges in the Gilgit-Baltistan High Court. It was decided that without consultation with the former provincial government, the summary of judges’ appointments will be forwarded through the current provincial government for Supreme Court of Pakistan’s approval.

The Chief Minister requested the federal government to ensure transparency and justice for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan in this matter.

The cabinet also deliberated on facilitating investment in power projects in Gilgit-Baltistan.

It was decided that the Investment Council under the chairmanship of prime minister of Pakistan will make efforts to attract investment in G-B’s power sector. Similarly, NEPRA’s services will be engaged to determine the allocation of electricity to the region.

Furthermore, to attract investments in power projects, a special committee consisting of Minister for Planning Fathullah Khan, Minister for Law Syed Sahil Abbas, Minister for Agriculture Engineer Muhammad Anwar, and Minister for Finance Engineer Muhammad Ismail.

The committee would be led by the provincial Minister for Power, Mushtaq Ahmed, was formed. The committee would include . The committee will present its recommendations in the next cabinet meeting.
