Scramble for ministries and key positions in Chief Minister G-B cabinet

Gilgit (C.R Akbar Shah): The post-Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan election has unleashed a scramble for ministries and key positions in the G-B government.

Assembly members of the forward block and different political parties eye on important ministries after they helped Haji Gulbar Khan become the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B).

Haji Gulbar Khan has been elected as the Chief Minister with the support of 10 members of the Assembly of Forward Block and 9 members of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

Four members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) want three ministries of their choice with a special assistant. Pakistan Muslim League  Nawaz (PML-N) has three assembly members. Two of the assembly are willing to take the PML-N leader as an adviser with the ministries of their choice.  Similarly, an assembly member representing Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is demanding a ministry and position of special coordinator to Chief Minister.

The list does not end here. The members of the forward block who supported Haji Gulbar Khan in the elections also demand ministries of their choice. Former interior advisor Shams Loon, former Development and Planning Minister Fathullah Khan, and former Law Minister Syed Sohail Abbas want to retain their previous ministries. Similarly, the former Speaker Amjad Zaidi eyes on the Ministry of Works.

It is pertinent to note that the cabinet of chief minister Gilgit-Baltistan comprises of 12 ministers, 2 advisors, 5 special assistants and 2 special co-ordinators.

Ibex Times contacted Chief Minister secretariat for latest updates on which it was informed that consultation is going on formation of new cabinet which will be announced within a day.
