Gilgit (PR): Pakistan Red Crescent distributed relief ration for Eid-ul-Fitr among more than five hundred families affected last year’s floods across Gilgit-Baltistan. The relief items included flour, wheat, ghee, sugar packs, tea, salt, spices, etc.
The relief supplies were distributed in the: vilages of Sherqilla and Buber in Ghizer; Yalbo, Sabsar, Ganji, Talu and Tulobruq villages of sub division of Rondo in skardu; and Manikal, Batogah and Goharabad villages of Dariel sub-division of Diamar district and various affected areas of Gilgit district.
Senior officials of Pakistan Red Crescent Gilgit-Baltistan, local administration officials and representatives of the affected community were present on the occasion of the distribution of relief materials.
While addressing the flood affectees in Buber village of Punial Ghizer, chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Gilgit-Baltistan, Brigadier Retired Saleem Mehmood said Pakistan Red Crescent is a national welfare organization which acts as a government supporter in humanitarian service activities during natural calamities and emergencies.
He said that the Red Crescent actively participated in the relief and rehabilitation activities of the victims during the last year’s floods in different districts of Gilgit-Baltistan and with the support of its charities, more than 1,000 flood-affected families were helped.
He said, in the face of the economic conditions of the country, it was almost impossible for the flood victims bear the Eid expenses. Therefore, Pakistan Red Crescent, with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent provided aid to the flood victims of Gilgit-Baltistan.
He thanked Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, Secretary General Obaidullah Khan and IFRC officials for providing relief ration to the flood victims.
