Ghakuch: A peace walk was held by the local residents on Friday in district headquarters Ghakuch, Ghizer, Gilgit-Baltistan aimed at promoting sectarian harmony in society.
According to organizers, the walk was meant to give a message to the district administration that the people of Ghizer are peace-loving. However, this high moral demonstration of the locals should not be taken for granted.
The walk was a reaction registration of cases against local residents who had demanded for arrest of a group of people whom they blamed for harassing a female while she was visiting the city park on the 1st day of Eid-ul-fitre May 3, 2022. A scuffle had ensued between two groups of people resulting in the arrest of the accused.
According to the organizers, the harassers even physically engaged with the policemen. They pushed policemen in uniform and showed resistance. The police have now registered cases against a number of local people instead of taking punitive measures against anti-peace elements, complained organizers of the walk.
The participants of the walk demanded of the local administration to act in a just way and avoid coming under the pressure of anti-social elements for the sake of maintenance of peace and tranquility in the district.
