Gilgit (Correspondent): While talking Himalayan Today on Wednesday, Inspector General Police Gilgit-Baltistan Mohammad Saeed Wazir has said that 816 soldiers of G-B Scouts along with the police and private personnel are deployed to protect the Chinese engineers working in Gilgit-Baltistan.
IGP G-B said soon a counter-terrorism department will be established in Gilgit-Baltistan as well which will further stabilize the law and order situation in the region. The Prime Minister of Pakistan has issued orders to the relevant institutions for the establishment of counter-terrorism department in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The security measures are taken in view of the recent terrorist activities, i.e. the incident of Nanga Parbat , burning of schools in Diamer and activities of anti-social elements in the region, said IGP G-B.
He said that there is a need to strengthen the CTD police in the current situation. The manpower in Gilgit-Baltistan Police is insufficient. While talking of the numerucal strength of police in G-B, the population and the crime rate has never been taken into consideration. Gilgit-Baltistan is not as big as KP in terms of population but it is closer to KP in terms of area.
In response to a question, Mohammad Saeed Wazir said that the police force is being equipped with modern facilities along with training on modern lines. The provincial government and administration are also making every effort to provide facilities to the police department.
In response to another question, Inspector General Police Gilgit-Baltistan Mohammad Saeed Wazir said that merit has been ensured in the police force in all cases and the policy of merit will continue in the future.
