Local Bodies polls in Gilgit-Baltistan to be conducted in November 2023, Chief Election Commissioner G-B

Gilgit (C.R Akbar Shah): Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Chief Election Commissioner Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Raja Shehbaz Khan said local bodies election would be held in the first week of November this year.

He thanked the Chief Minister, Governor Gilgit-Baltistan, and Chief Secretary G-B for enforcing the Local Government Act and Rules. The municipal election will be on party basis and mayors will be elected, further added the chief election commissioner.

The chief election commissioner G-B said Khalid Khursheed was least concerned about the conduction of LG polls and never bothered to respond to the letters the election commission wrote him suggesting enforcement of the new act and rules.

He said the act and rules have come into force thus paving a path for the conduction of local government polls in the area.

The Election Commission has requested allocation of extra budget to hold the elections. With that the election commission G-B will we will release the schedule for holding local body elections in the first week of November.

He said disqualification of the defected and terminated members of PTI can be considered if they come up with a request.

Raja Shehbaz vowed to set an example by making the local elections free and transparent local body elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.
