Haji Gulbar Khan is addressing G-B Assembly after being elected as chief minister Gilgit-Baltitsan

Gilgit (C.R Akbar Shah): Haji Gulbar Khan got elected as the fourth chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan with the support of 19 members of the assembly on Thursday. The voting for the leader of the house was held in the Gilgit-Baltistan assembly.

The members of the like-minded group boycotted the election. Those participating in the election included members of Haji Gulbar’s Forward block, Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam.

Haji Gulbar will be chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan for the next two and a half years.

It is pertinent to note the former Chief Minister Khalid was disqualified by the Chief Court in the fake degree case on July 4.

After the disqualification of Khalid Khursheed Ahmad Khan, Tehreek-e-Insaf was split into two groups in Gilgit-Baltistan, the forward block and Hamkhayal Group formed by Haji Gulbar Khan and Javed Ali Manwa respectively.

In a house of 33 members, 19 members cast their vote in favour of Haji Gulbar. The opposition leader G-B Legislative Assembly Amjad Hussain Advocate was absent from the meeting while 10 MLAs of the like-minded group boycotted the election. The only nationalist member of the assembly Nawaz Khan Naji did not vote.

Now with Haji Gulbar Khan elected as the fourth chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Tehreek-e-Insaf is practically out of the parliamentary politics in Gilgit-Baltistan.
