G-B government and W Plus Japan sign MoU for cooperation in the IT sector

ISLAMABAD (PR): Gilgit-Baltistan government and W Plus Inc. Japan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday in Islamabad to promote cooperation in the field of information technology.

 Those present on the occasion included chief minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid, provincial ministers, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan, and other senior government officials.

While speaking on the occasion, the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid said that the Gilgit-Baltistan government is investing its resources in human development to prepare skilled manpower to face future challenges.

He said the G-B government is also taking steps to provide all kinds of facilities and a favorable environment to domestic and foreign companies for investment in information technology and other sectors in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Chief Minister G-B assured all kinds of support to W Plus in its endeavor to promote the IT sector in Gilgit-Baltistan. He expressed his hope that W Plus Inc. will promote the talent of Gilgit-Baltistan to the global level. The G-B government will allocate a large portion of funds for the promotion of the IT sector in the upcoming provincial budget, further added the chief minister G-B.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary G-B Mohiuddin Ahmad Wani said the government has introduced historic reforms for the last year for development in the IT sector. We have established more than three hundred IT labs in schools across G-B. Similarly, we have launched important projects to teach IT and artificial intelligence in schools across G-B.

While addressing the event, the head of the Pak-Japan Council Hayashi said that the center is taking a number of steps for the promotion of partnerships between both countries in IT and other sectors.

He said they are making an effort to increase Pakistan’s IT exports. In this regard, the Pak-Japan Center has completed the registration of 3,000 IT engineers. In June this year, Pak-Japan Center will establish two Pakistani IT startups in Japan.

 He further said that the center is taking steps on a priority basis to teach the Japanese language to Pakistani engineers. Learning Japanese will provide job opportunities to Pakistani artificial intelligence engineers in Japan. Pak-Japan Center is also starting training programs in universities of Gilgit-Baltistan from August this year, said the head of the Pak-Japan Council.

Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer W Plus Inc. Sikorai said his organization will provide full support in the development of the IT sector including the organization of training programs and the preparation of skilled manpower in Gilgit-Baltistan. The center will also provide support to highlight the talent of Gilgit-Baltistan at the global level and provide them with better guidance and employment opportunities.

 He further said that the development of Gilgit Baltistan in the field of information technology will open new doors for tourism and the economy and the standard of living of the people will increase.
