Gilgit (Correspondent): The delay in the fund release for Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) by the central government has created a severe financial crisis in the region. There is a strong fear of certain government departments going bankrupt.
According to our sources, the Department of baitul-mal and social welfare is facing severe difficulties in providing financial assistance to deserving people.
According to informed sources, more than 1,000 applications for financial assistance collected from ten districts of Gilgit-Baltistan are still pending. During the last nine months, not a single deserving person has received any payment for medical treatment and other needs. Payment has not been made.
Sources say that it is not possible to provide financial assistance until the funds are released. Like the treasury department, the social welfare department is struggling to deal with financial issues and continue working on welfare projects due to the non-availability of the budget.
Both the treasury department and the social welfare departments are welfare institutions that provide financial assistance including medical expenses and medicines to widows, orphans, destitute, and other deserving people in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Due to the non-availability of the budget, both welfare organizations are facing severe financial difficulties. These institutions demand special attention from chief minister Khalid Khurshid and Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan before it’s too late.
