Controversy Surrounds Astore By-Election as Parties Demand Re-Polling Amid Allegations of Vote Buying

Gilgit (Bureau Report): The Muslim League-N and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) have jointly called for the re-election in five polling stations in Astore, and formal applications have been submitted by both parties to concerned authorities in this regard.

According to both the PPP and PML-N, the former Chief Minister, Khalid Khursheed, has managed to buy votes by spending a huge amount of money shortly before the election day.

It is important to note that the by-election for GBLA-13, Astore-1, was conducted on September 9, 2023, following the disqualification of former Chief Minister GB, Khalid Khursheed.

According to independent sources, PTI candidate Muhammad Khursheed Khan had secured victory in the election with a margin of over 6000 votes. However, the official announcement of the election results is still pending.

More than 30 hours have passed since the polling concluded, and the former Chief Minister and his supporters have staged a sit-in protest in Astore, demanding the immediate announcement of the election results.

The delay in making the election results public by the authorities has raised various concerns among different segments of society.

The unexpected PTI victory in this election has taken people across the country by surprise, leading to celebrations and jubilation among PTI supporters throughout Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan.
