Gilgit (PR): A consultative meeting was held under the banner of the Coalition for Inclusive Pakistan (CIP) regarding the inclusion of women and persons with disabilities in the political and electoral process.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the member organizations and the journalistic fraternity of Gilgit-Baltsitan.
The meeting discussed the obstacles and underlying reasons responsible for the lack of women participation in politics in Pakistan.
During the consultation workshop, two groups were formed to discuss issues related to the political process of women in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Issues face by women such as economic isolation, gender discrimination, denial of participation in the political process, travel restrictions, denial of share in property, gender related stereotypes, etc. were discussed in detail.
The participants suggested effective strategies that journalists and media can play in order to solve the women related issues through news, media talk, interviews by using of print, electronic and social media.
