In an open letter written to the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, successful candidates for elementary teachers’ positions have demanded an investigation into the issuance of an offer letter in violation of the set norms.
According to the officials of Elementary Schools Qualified Teachers, a newly formed organization, offer letters were issued without displaying the merit and waiting list of tests and interviews by the education department Gilgit. This is against the conventional practice and legal method and created doubt in the recruitment process.
According to them, with an exception in the education department, the merit and a waiting list of the conducted tests and interviews were displayed in all other departments like GBPWD, Revenue and Forest department, etc.
Successful EST teachers i.e. Rana Bashir, Touseef Hasan, Aflatoon, and others have demanded Chief Secretary GB investigate the matter to see whether the recruitment was as per merit or not. They also have demanded to punish the officials responsible for this gross professional misconduct.
They demanded the appointment of the candidates on the waiting list in schools running second shifts where there is already a shortage of teachers. Because of the upper age limit of many candidates is crossed by the time the result is announced after three years of the test.
