Some of the important landmarks of the architectural heritage of Hyderabad city include Pacco Qillo, tombs of Talpur Mirs, Rani Bagh, Sindh Museum, and Hyderabad Cantonment.Â
1. Pacco QilaÂ
Pacco Qila is a historical fort located on the hillock in Hyderabad city in the Sindh province of Pakistan. The Kalhora ruler, Mian Ghulam Rasool Kalhoro, had built the fort in 1768 AD in commemoration of his successful Gujarat campaigns.
The fort acted as the capital during the Talpur period later after the demise of Talpur rule in Sindh. The founder of the Talpur dynasty Mir Fateh Ali Khan seized power from Kalhoros in 1789, abandoned Khudabad, and shifted his capital to the new city Hyderabad.Â
Mir Fateh Ali Khan used the fort as the royal residence. He added more buildings, e.g. a haram, mosque, etc. with a purpose to accommodate the ruling family. The fort continued to host the Talpur rulers until the British annexed Sindh in 1843. They razed a major part of the fort and used it for the accommodation of troops and ammunition.Â
2. Rani Bagh
Established as a botanical garden in 1861, Rani Bagh still acts as a zoological garden in the Hyderabad city of present-day Pakistan. The garden was called Queen’s Garden in the name of Queen Victoria by the then Agro-horticultural Society.Â
At present the garden is spread over 58 acres of land, divided into four parts of Eidgah, the Abbas Bhai Park, zoo, and lawns. There are some new additions to the park such as children’s parks, jogging tracks, a five thousand Square feet artificial lake for boating purposes, and a parking area.
3. Sindh Museum
Established in 1971, the Sindh Museum is in Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan. The museum is aimed at collecting, preserving, and promoting research on the cultural heritage of Sindh. The ancient and historical stuff put on exhibition in the museum gives a quick overview of the Sindhi culture and heritage.Â
The historical artifacts put on display represent different historical phases and ruing periods of Sindh i.e. Samma, Soomra, Kalhora, Talpur periods. The artifacts include sculptures, handicrafts, and photos of different periods.Â
4. Hyderabad CantonmentÂ
Hyderabad Cantonment Board is an important historical place with administrative importance in the Hyderabad city of Sindh, Pakistan. Currently considered Class-A cantonment, it was established during the British time in 1874 over an area of almost 3016 acres. Â
