Gilgit (PR): According to a press release issued from the office of Deputy Director Information G-B Assembly Abbas Ali, an important meeting of the Standing Committee of G-B Assembly on Department of Interior and General Administration Department (GAD) took place in Gilgit city on Wednesday.

Presided over by Committee Chairman Javed Ali Manwa, the session was attended by Tourism and Food Minister Ghulam Muhammad, Information Technology Advisor Suraya Zaman, Assembly Member Wazeer Muhammad Salim, and officials from the Home Department G-B.

The Standing Committee was given a detailed briefing by the Additional Secretary Interior Gilgit-Baltistan regarding the deployment of the police force for security and protocol purposes in the region.

The committee was informed that at present, over a thousand police personnel are deployed on the security and protocol duties involving government officials, judges, current and former federal ministers, and other institutions across Gilgit-Baltistan.

The standing committee expressed its strong anger, asserting that the police deployment for security and protocol lacks legal compliance. The present arrangement was viewed as resembling a tumultuous situation rather than a lawful implementation for security objectives.

The committee sought preliminary suggestions from the police and home department to aid in the development of a comprehensive policy and SOPs in its upcoming meeting.

The committee has also instructed the interior department to submit recommendations regarding security measures and official protocols in the upcoming meeting, on similar patterns as followed in other provinces.
