Former chief minister suggest making BISP data public to ensure transparency

Gilgit (correspondent): The former chief minister Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Hafiz Hafizur Rahman has suggested to make data public to ensure transparency in Benazir Income Support Program.  Similarly, the list of beneficiary names should be displayed at local level, suggested the former CM G-B.

He was speaking to media after a BISP after attending a briefing of regional director Mumtazur Rehman and other officials.

He said at present, 94000 people in Gilgit city receive monitory benefits through BISP. Billions of rupees are being distributed among people. Banazir Income Support Program is a good program that directly benefits the poor. More steps need to be taken to make this program transparent.

Hafeez said those who consider themselves eligible should register their name by going to the ISP office in Lake Kirby with their identity card.

These views were expressed by former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman while talking to the media after the briefing given by BISP Regional Director Mumtazur Rehman and other officials.

He said that Banazir Income Support Program is a national level program which was designed during the previous regime of Muslim League. Later it was continued as Benazir Income Support Program. PTI tried to distribute it under the name of Ehsaas programme.

He said that more than 94,000 people are benefiting from Benazir Income Support Program in Gilgit-Baltistan. Three billion rupees are being distributed annually among people, which is a huge amount. ThePTI government has just changed the name of the program from BISP to Ehsas program.

According to Hafiz said if anyone feels that he is eligible, he/she can go to the tehsil office of BISP with his ID card and get his registration done. Civil society should also cooperate in this regard as those deserving should get their right.

He said BISP is not a political program, it is a commendable initiative of the government to give their right to the people. Reforms are needed to bring transparency in this program.

Earlier, the regional director BISP Gilgit-Baltistan Mumtazur Rehman while giving a briefing said that the data has been filtered in 2021 and the survey has been completed. Was

In the survey of BISP, you will be asked about having vehicle, mobile, bank balance, residence, personal house are asked. Government servants are not included in the survey, added the former CM.

 He said that the last survey was completed under the supervision of the teachers. No teacher was given the right to exclude a deserving person from the staff or to add an undeserving one.
