Gilgit (PR): Chaired by the chief minister Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Khalid Khurshid, a high-level meeting in connection with the determination of wheat price and supply took place in Gilgit on Saturday.
While speaking on the occasion, CM G-B Khalid Khurshid said the federal government has made the supply of wheat to Gilgit-Baltistan conditional with an increase in prices. However, the G-B government will make its decision after consultation with stakeholders in an all-parties conference which will be convened soon.
CM G-B said that a strategy will be designed as per the consensus developed in the all-party conference in connection with the supply and price determination of wheat. The issue of wheat is of the highest importance in Gilgit-Baltistan and the current wheat supply is insufficient to meet the needs of the region, added CM G-B.
He further said the G-B government will demand help from the federal government to take measures to increase the capacity of local farmers in wheat cultivation at the local level.
The meeting was attended by Senior Provincial Minister Raja Zakaria, Provincial Law Minister Syed Sohail Abbas, Education Minister Raja Azam Khan, Agriculture Minister Kazim Mesim, Power Minister Mushtaq Hussain, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Mohyuddin Ahmed, and provincial secretaries.
