Gilgit (Bureau chief): Rosh International showed interest in launching a special program in connection with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer among women of Gilgit-Baltistan.
In this regard, a delegation of Rosh International met the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshidand CEO Sehat Card on Thursday in Gilgit.
During the meeting, Rosh International expressed interest in starting a pilot project in collaboration with the provincial government to make Gilgit-Baltistan a cancer-free zone for women.
In the project’s first phase, Rosh International will launch a special program for the diagnosis of female cancer in Gilgit-Baltistan, timely treatment, and awareness through health card, with the support of the local community.
Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid praised the health card and Rosh International for their commitment to making women’s cancer-free zone in Gilgit-Baltistan. He said cancer and similar diseases have increased in G-B because of the consumption of substandard food in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The chief minister expressed full support of his government in cancer diagnosis in women, free treatment through health card and awareness programs.
Khalid Khurshid further said, a special committee comprising representatives of GBRSP, the Health Department, and Health Card is being formed, which with the support of Rosh International. The committee will give recommendations with a timeline for making Gilgit-Baltistan a cancer-free zone for women. The recommendations will be presented to the relevant forum, and further added by the chief minister.
Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid also issued instructions to include district headquarters hospitals in the health card.
He further said proposals are under consideration to ensure the provision of better health facilities to government employees under a transparent procedure.
