Gilgit (C.R. Akbar Shah): Some years back Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan had adopted Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Gupis along with its staff through a memorandum of understanding (MOU).
Quality services were provided in the initial months and years. Management was improved and the presence of doctors was ensured. The people of Gupis and Yasin benefited from the health services provided at the hospital. Now they had access to quality services related to surgery and quality medicines in their own locality.
Unfortunately, with the passage of time, the quality of services declined. The specialist doctors appointed were taken back and the hospital was left at the mercy of a medical officer.
According to Abdul Majeed, a renowned social and activist of the locality, the people of Yasin and Gupis spread over a vast area are without basic health facilities. They have to rush to Gilgit city in cases of emergency facing huge financial issues and psychological trauma.
Talking to our correspondent in Gilgit city, Abdul Majid urged AKHS, P to appoint specialist doctors at its adopted hospital so that local people come out of the financial and psychological problems which they face because of an absence of health facilities in the area.
