Marking a Historic Milestone Aga Khan University Welcomes Inaugural Batch to Faculty of Arts and Sciences

Karachi (Didar Ali): In a momentous event on September 18, the Aga Khan University (AKU) welcomed its first batch of students to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) in Karachi, Pakistan.

Ninety-eight students from various regions of Pakistan have been selected to embark on this groundbreaking academic endeavor after a rigorous selection process.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the main AKU auditorium, marked a significant milestone in the university’s history. In attendance were Inaugural Dean Stephen Leon and Founding Dean Anjum Halai, who introduced the faculty members to the students.

The event provided an opportunity for the incoming students to meet their peers and engage with the faculty.

The inaugural ceremony began at 4 pm with a warm welcome speech by President Aga Khan University Sulaiman Shahab Uddin. He welcomed students and expressed gratitude to all those who supported the establishment of this new department.

Dr. Carl Amrhein, Provost and Vice President, Academic AKU, delivered a virtual address, followed by a speech by Princess Zahra, who represented Chancellor Prince Karim Aga Khan. She said that the establishment of FAS is a indication of AKU’s transformation into a holistic university committed to nurturing future leaders.

President Shahab Uddin, Inaugural Dean Stephen Leon, and Founding Dean Anjum Halai jointly unveiled the flag of AKU FAS.

Students from the MBBS and BScN programs captivated the audience with their stage performance, demonstrating their skills across a wide spectrum of music genres, which included Urdu, Punjabi, English pop, and Chitrali melodies.

Following the ceremony, a refreshment was arranged for the guests, parents, and students, fostering a sense of community and celebration.

The inauguration of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at AKU represents a significant step toward achieving the university’s academic goals and nurturing a new generation of leaders and thinkers in the fields of Arts and Humanities too.
