Astor (PR): Department of Social Welfare and Women Development, Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) organized one-day workshop regarding women empowerment with the support of the Aga Khan Rural Support Program in Astore on Tuesday.
The participants of the workshop included parliamentary secretary for health Dilshad Bano, parliamentary secretary for education Suraya Zaman, secretary social welfare department G-B Fida Hussain, deputy commissioner Astore Muhammad Zulqarnain Khan.
Other participants included coordinator for chief minister Samiullah advocate, Sajida Sadaqat, president Tehreek e Insaf  Astore Muhammad Shafa, general secretary Pakistan Muslim league Rana Muhammad Farooq, member Aman Committee Kifayatuddin and heads of different departments.
While addressing the workshop, Dilshad Bano said the development of society is possible only through the empowerment of women and their full representation in all spheres of life. Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid wants to give women their rightful place in society. On his directions, government is undertaking legislation for the empowerment of women, said Dilshad bano.
Speaking on this occasion, secretary social welfare department Fida Hussain said the government wants to give women their legitimate rights. His department has initiated consultation process at the divisional level to start legislation on women empowerment in alignment with public opinion, he further added.
Addressing the workshop, Deputy Commissioner Astore Muhammad Zulqarnain Khan said the development of women is actually the development of the society. Thus, it is important for women to get their rightful place to contribute to the development of the society.
He thanked the Department of Social Welfare and Women’s Development G-B for initiating the necessary legislative measures in accordance with the vision of the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.
DC Astore assured his full support in any activities concerning the empowerment of women in the Astore district. He also thanked the Parliamentary Secretaries Dilshad Banu, Suraya Zaman and others for participating in the workshop.
Coordinators for the chief minister, Samiullah Advocate and Sajida Sadaqat, also spoke on the occasion. They shed light on the steps the government of Gilgit-Baltistan has taken regarding the development of women and assured their full cooperation.
It is pertinent to note that G-B Legislative Assembly has passed G-B Commission on Status of Women Bill 2022. The objective of this bill is promotion of women empowerment in Gilgit-Baltistan. Now the G-B government has undertaken district level consultation to make legislation on women empowerment to ensure equal participation of women in all spheres of life.
