Interfaith Conference held in Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit ( staff reporter): Interfaith Harmony Conference was held on Sunday in Gilgit city under the banner of the ministry of religious affairs and inter-faith harmony.

The conference was presided by the chairman of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Other participants included Joint Secretary, Ministry of Religious Affairs Arshad Fareed, Finance Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Javed Manwa, Chairman National Minorities Commission Dr. Cheela Raaam Kulalnii, Representative of Ahle Tashee Allama Karamat Hussain Najafi, Sheikh Mirza Ali President Shia Ulema Council Gilgit and others.

While addressing the conference, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad stated that people belonging to all religions had a pivotal role in the making of Pakistan. Contrary to India, where the BJP government has made minorities’ life miserable, people practicing different faith systems in Pakistan today live in harmony. He further stated that peaceful co-existence is the need of the hour and guarantees the development of people.

While addressing the conference, Javed Manwa stated that the credit behind today’s peace goes to Pakistan Army. Paying his tribute to the Ministry of Interfaith Harmony, he said that amid heinous attempts to disrupt the peace in GB through sectarianism, this conference was very important. He hoped the conference will play an important role in creating sustainable peace in the area.

While speaking on the occasion, the chairman minorities commission of Pakistan condemned the recent blasphemous statements given by officials of the BJP government in India. The freedom that minorities enjoy in Pakistan cannot be thought about in India.

Addressing the conference, religious leaders representing different sects across Gilgit-Baltistan emphasized unity among people by practically demonstrating respect for one another. They thanked the Ministry of religious affairs and Inter-Faith Harmony for conducting the conference in Gilgit-Baltistan.
