During the meeting, the finance minister G-B Javed Manwa gave a detailed briefing regarding the economic problems that the region faces today.

The cabinet decided expedite its efforts to convince federal government to release G-B’ share of funds. It also decided to bring a reduction in the expenses allocated for various projects of the provincial government.

The cabinet meeting approved the Gilgit-Baltistan Local Self-Governance Act. With reference to the new act, the chief minister G-B said his government has introduced one of the best local bodies systems in G-B.

According to the CM G-B, the new legislation will help transfer powers from provincial government to the lower levels. To solve public issues, G-B government will give power and resources to the tehsil and district councils. Apart from this, the cabinet also approved the Gilgit-Baltistan Town Planning and Building Control Regulations 2022. The cabinet session also approved financial and administrative restructuring of Gilgit-Baltistan Waste Management Company.

With the separation of posts of sub-engineers from assistance package, the cabinet also approved the re-construction and repair works of 300 KW power plant at Kajhokashal Nagar. It also approved the revision of the previous meeting’s decision of grant-in-aid to NATO and ordered to include secretary excise and taxation in the board of directors of NATCO.

Apart from providing land to build a world-class sports complex in Gilgit city, the session pay urgedthe government to compensate to the victims of Bagardo Skardu and Haramush of Jaglot Skardu road. while IB in Manawar Gilgit after paying compensation for four Supply of Kanal land was also approved. The cabinet also issued an order to the committee of ministers to provide land for the expansion PAAF’S project.

To ensure environmental protection, the cabinet signed a MoU with the department of forests, wildlife and environment, Shengjiang Institute of Geography, Chinese Academy of Science, Raptor Center for Conservation and Rehabilitation; and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation.

While addresing the cabinet meeting, the chief minister vowed to increase the number of lecturers in educational institutes.

Apart from the allotment of government quarters for Jamia Shah Hamdan Noorbakhshi Olding Skardu, a financial grant was also approved to the heirs of the families who were affected by the collapse of the roof in Bonardas.

During the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid’s Principal Secretary Usman Ahmed gave a detailed briefing regarding the progress on land reforms. Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan said the Land Reforms Committee should finalize its proposals before Nowroz so that this long-standing issue can be resolved on a sustainable basis.

He further said that apart from giving land ownership to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, the cabinet will make legislation related to the resettlement of barren lands. This will help make the region economically self-sufficient in food and overcome food shortages in the future.

The secretary food gave a detailed briefing on the wheat crisis in G-B. The cabinet decided that necessary measures will be taken to solve the wheat crisis.
