Gilgit (C.R. Akbar Shah): Gilgit-Baltistan Bar Council links legal practice in GB with their registration in their relevant bar councils. According to our sources, the council has issued notices to a number of lawyers for violation of set norms in connection with legal practice.
The action was taken by Kamal Hussain advocate, Chairman GB Bar Council after getting complaints about the legal practice of government employees disguising themselves as lawyers in courts.
According to our sources, two of the accused lawyers were allowed to continue their legal practice after their documents and credentials were found genuine.
Talking to Ibex Times, the chairman of Disciplinary Committee GB Bar Council, Manzoor Hussain said legal practice by a laser without getting enrolled in his/her relevant bar council is against the legal ethics and set norms.
According to Mansoor Hussain advocate, some lawyers enrolled with Pakistan Bar Council are doing their legal practice without NOC in Gilgit-Baltistan. Similarly, a number of government employees have been appearing in courts disguising themselves as lawyers.
He said a crackdown has started against such elements and soon courts will be made clean of fake lawyers. Those resisting the actions of the GB Bar Council will be dealt with strictly as per set norms. However, they can exercise their right to defend themselves in the courts in case they believe it is unjust to them.
