Gilgit (C.R. Akbar Shah): Flash flooding in Sherqilla village of Punial in Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan leaves 6 people dead, agricultural land, and more than 200 homes damaged.
Those who died in the flood include Gul Shaar w/o Nosher (50), Gulshan d/o Nosher (22), Yasmin w/o Shen shah (25), Hakeema w/o Ali Dad (30), and two minor girls Habiba d/o Shen Shah (2) and Momirah d/o Bagi (2).
The dead bodies of a minor girl and two women have been found while the rest are still missing. Rescue 1122 along with local volunteers is searching for dead bodies of missing victims.
According to Rescue 1122, a minor girl has been shifted to a nearby hospital after she was rescued.
According to eyewitnesses, along with destruction of roads and standing crops, dozens of homes have vanished whereas hundreds of houses, shops have been damaged partially.
Flash floods are playing havoc causing human and economic loss to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan on a large scale because of increasing temperature.
The government of Gilgit-Baltistan has issued flood alerts advising people residing near rivers and vulnerable places to move to safe places. However, no material and financial support is being provided to help such people.
