Gilgit (Correspondent): Floods in Gilgit-Baltistan over last couple of days have wreaked havoc by destroying residential areas, agricultural fields, linking roads, etc.
According to reports, the supply of both drinking and irrigation water to Gilgit City has been blocked due to the destruction caused by flooding in the Kargah Nalla.
Similarly, the Karakoram highway (KKH) and Gilgit-Skardu road have also been reported blocked at different places due to rains and floods.
According to reports, the floods have destroyed huge acres of cultivation lands in Chilas Diamir and many places in the Ghizer district along with damaging houses and roads.
National Disaster Management Gilgit-Baltistan and Rescue 1122 personnel are ready to deal with any emergency. People residing near the river have also been asked to move to safer places.
According to the Meteorological Department, the rains will continue till July 26.
Given the potential weather emergencies, the government of Gilgit-Baltistan has advised the people to refrain from unnecessary travel.
