CM G-B forms a special committee to review the proposed extension of Henzal Power Project Tunnel

Chief Minister G-B Khalid Khurshid presides over a high level meeting on Henzal Power Project

Gilgit (PR): Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Khalid Khurshid Ahmad Khan presided over a high-level meeting regarding the Henzal Power Project in Gilgit on Saturday.

While speaking in the meeting, the chief minister said the transfer of authority to the G-B government from the principal accounting officer of PSDP projects is a great initiative of the provincial government.

He said no compromise would be made on the progress of the PSDP projects after the transfer of the powers of the principal accounting officer to the provincial government.

The chief minister said the ‘Henzal Power Project’ is a very important project to overcome the present power crisis in Gilgit. He also directed the concerned authorities to ensure the timely execution of the projects.

The provincial secretary of power, project director Henzal Power Project and consultants gave a briefing to the chief minister.  With the extension of the Henzal Power Project tunnel of Henzal Power Project from 5.1 meters to 6.1 meters, the capacity of this project will increase from 20 MW to 40 MW.

The extension of the project will cost an additional expenditure of Rs. 5.48 million which requires the provincial government’s approval for its revision of PCI.

CM G-B formed a special committee comprising of minister planning, minister power, minister finance, secretary planning G-B, secretary planning, project director Henzal power project, and others.

The committee will investigate the recommendation to extend the length of the tunnel of the Henzal power project and submit its report within fifteen days.

In light of the report, chief minister G-B Khalid Khurshid will give a final decision regarding the revision of the project.
