Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan has made a high-level fact-finding committee on the issue of suicide cases in the Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The committee consists of members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA), bureaucracy and civil society, and organizations working on mental health in GB.
The members of the committee include Minister Welfare, population, and Youth affairs Col. Obaidullah Baigh, Deputy Speaker GBLA Nazir Ahmad Advocate, Member GBLA Nawaz Khan Naji, member GBLA Ghulam Muhamad, Secretary Welfare GB, Deputy Commissioner Ghizer, Director Immune Commune on Health and Development Anayat Baigh, representatives of all three sects and others.
According to the notification released from the CM secretariat, the committee can co-opt any member deemed necessary. Deputy Commissioner Ghizer will be the secretary of the committee and focal office till the completion of the task. Moreover, DC Ghizer will be responsible for all necessary logistics and support during the preparation of the report.
According to the notification, the committee will prepare a comprehensive report on the issue of suicides in the Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan. The report shall be prepared and submitted to the office of CM GB along with clear-cut recommendations on the formulation of social and legal policy on the issue, within 15 days after the issuance of this notification.
