Business community leaders of Gilgit city visit pul bazar and demand reopening of the old Konodas bridge

Gilgit (PR): According to a press release issued by the media cell of the central trade union Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), the leaders of Anjuman Tajran visited Old Konodas bridge and pull road Bazar.

While talking to the Anjuman Tajran leaders, the shopkeeper and residents of the pull road and Kashmiri Bazaar said wires of the old Konodas bridge had falled down three months back. The administration, instead of repairing the bridge, closed it completely by putting up walls on both sides. This closure of pull has caused huge losses to the traders of Pull bazar.

On this occasion, the traders leaders said that it is unfortunate that the administration is exploiting the traders on the pretext of fund even for a minor work. If the administration is so short of funds, the business community will donate money to them.

They further said it is not because of lack of fund but incompetence of management. The admnistration has funds for their luxuries but they do not have money to solve the problems of the people.

They demanded administration to immediately ensure the repair of this bridge, else the Anjuman Traders and all the traders’ organizations with stage a protest dharna as a show of solidarity with business men and residents of pul road area.

The delegation of business leaders included secretary general markazi anjuman tajran Momi Mughal, president trade union ittehad welfare Malik Ghulam Hussain, president shopping malls association Zaheer Qasmi, office secretary anjuman tajran Haji Muhammad Ramzan, senior vice president Qari Sherzaman, president pul road Jameel Ahmed, general secretary Kashmiri Bazar Chaudhry Muhammad Rafiq and others.

On this occasion, the residents said the children and employees of the bridge road used to go to schools and offices on the other side by crossing the old Konodas bridge. Now, because of closure of the bridge, they are traveling two extra miles kilometers.

It is pertinent to note that Pul road was the oldest and busiest market of Gilgit city, Now after the construction of Konodas RCC bridge and closure of old wooden bridge the bazar gives a deserted look. Depite repeated requests of the traders and residents, the administration has failed to respond.

This historic bridge of Gilgit is a real local heritage. Both national and international tourist specially visit to see this bridge. It is pivotal to immediately repair this bridge so the traders of the bridge road can once again restart their business.
