Affectees of Shishper glacier lake outburst waiting for help despite lapse of more than a month

Gilgit (C.R. Akbar Shah): After the outburst of Shisper glacier lake and damages caused in the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Advisor to PM on Kashmir affairs,Qamar Zaman Kaira and Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khursheed Khan, had given clear instruction to take immediate measures to compensate the losses of the affectees.

Despite lapse of more a month, the government has made neither a comprehensive analysis not it has practically taken any step for the rehabilitation of the affected families.

People of Hasanabad have lost their homes, agricultural land and property to this disaster. The only irrigation channel supplying water to the village is still blocked causing damge to standing crops, livestock, orchards, etc.

The GB government had had pledged to accommodate those made homeless in hotels till alternative residential arrangements were made for them. However, the promises made at the time of the outburts seem to have been forgotten by the government.

The elected representative from Hunza also seem to have put the issue at the backburner despite having knowledge of the prevailing situation. The local people complain of having not done anywork in connection with any suppot to bring life back to normal in Hasanabad.

The effectees have demand Chief secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Muhiyuddin Wani to immediately take action and play his role to materialize the promises of the government.
