Prince Rahim Aga Khan Discusses Development Initiatives with CM GB

Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan welcomed Prince Rahim Aga Khan upon his arrival in the region during their meeting on Sunday in Gilgit.

During his meeting with Prince Rahim, Chief Minister G-B Haji Gulbar Khan acknowledged the important role that His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan and his family have played in the development of the region.

CM GB remarked that Prince Rahim’s visit, following closely after Princess Zahra Aga Khan’s, demonstrates their continued love and interest in the region

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for Aga Khan Development Network’s (AKDN) support to further the development and construction efforts in G-B.

He highlighted the importance of extending the ongoing AKDN programs, particularly in the remote and underdeveloped areas, to address fundamental issues such as health and education, and to enhance the quality of life for the local population.

CM GB further mentioned that, in addition to health and education in Gilgit-Baltistan, special support from AKDN is needed in the power sector. The region has vast potential for power generation. Attracting investors and focusing on power projects under AKDN could help address the ongoing power crisis in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The CM Gilgit-Baltistan ALSO extended his best wishes to His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan and extended a special invitation for him to visit Gilgit-Baltistan.

Speaking on this occasion, Prince Rahim Aga Khan stated that he had inspected health, education, and other significant projects in Gilgit-Baltistan over the past three days. He assured that in the future, special attention will be given to the areas identified by the Chief Minister, and AKDN programs will be expanded to all districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, with a particular focus on the underdeveloped and remote areas.

He said that on his next visit, he will personally tour the underdeveloped areas of Gilgit-Baltistan. Soon, health and education projects will be initiated under AKDN in these regions. These efforts will also contribute to the promotion of international tourism.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan instructed the AKDN leaders present with him to promptly develop a plan to work in the areas identified by the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Provincial Planning and Development Minister Raja Nasir Ali Khan, Provincial Tourism and Food Minister Ghulam Muhammad, and Provincial Health Minister Raja Azam Khan were also present in the meeting.
