Gilgit (PR): UN Women Country Representative for Pakistan, Lansana Wonneh, along with a delegation, visited the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly GBLA) Secretariat in Gilgit city on Saturday at the invitation of Speaker Nazir Ahmed.
Secretary GBLA Abdul Razzaq warmly welcomed the delegation followed by its meeting with the Speaker GBLA in his office.
Speaker GBLA, Nazir Ahmad Advocate, gave a detailed briefing on the Assembly, including the representation of women members in Standing Committees, their role in legislative work, and the formation of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus in the Assembly.
Lansana Wonneh, together with the Speaker GBLA Nazir Ahmad advocate inaugurated the office of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus.
The women members of the GB Assembly welcomed Lansana Wonneh informed him about the ongoing interventions made for the empowerment and betterment of women in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The country representative expressed gratitude to the Speaker and the Secretary of the GB Assembly for their warm welcome.
Expressing his gratitude, the country representative said that it was an honour to come to the GB Assembly Secretariat.
He appreciated the representation and role of women in parliamentary affairs. He assured to provide all possible support for women empowerment and their betterment in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Speaker of the GB Assembly also presented a souvenir to the UN Country Representative on behalf of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
In his closing remarks, the Speaker thanked the UN Women Country Representative for Pakistan and the delegation, expressing a desire to enhance cooperation in the future.
