Gilgit ( PR): In a statement issued to the media on Monday, the Director Food Department Gilgit-Baltistan- (G-B) Ikram Muhammad has stated the news regarding the reduction in wheat subsidy is baseless and part of negative propaganda.
According to him the GB government is providing a subsidy of Rs 8,800 per 100 kg sack of local wheat and a subsidy of Rs 13,000 per 100 kg sack of imported wheat.
Ikram Muhammad has further stated the subsidy provided by the federal government remains intact. However, to accommodate the rising costs resulting from the sharp increase in wheat prices nationally, a sufficient increase in subsidized wheat prices has been implemented. The government is covering the remaining shortfall.
According to the director Food Department G-B, the wheat quota, as directed by the provincial government, is being increased to ensure its transparent delivery and distribution of wheat and flour to the people.
From January 1, 2024, there would be an increase in the wheat quota compared to the previous allocation, further added the statement.
