Polio Campaign DC Gilgit Vows to Ensure Polio Drops for All Children

Gilgit (PR): The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gilgit, Amir Azam chaired an important meeting in connection with the polio campaign on Tuesday at his office.

The meeting was attended by SSP Gilgit, AC Gilgit, AC Jaglot, MS RHQ Hospital Gilgit, DD Education Gilgit, DD Private Schools Gilgit, representatives of WHO, Representative of Sihat Foundation Hospital and others.

The DC Gilgit said the polio campaign will run from October 2 to October 6, 2023 during which 56,669 children under the age of five will be administered polio drops in the Gilgit District.

Briefing DC Gilgit about the arrangements, the Gilgit District Health Officer (DHO) said the polio campaign will operate across 25 Union Councils (UCs), with the support of 73 Area In charges. Additionally, there will be 274 Mobile Teams stationed at 47 established Centers and 14 Transit Points. The polio teams will receive training before the polio campaign starts.

A representative from the World Health Organization (WHO) also provided a briefing to DC Gilgit regarding the Polio Campaign.

During the meeting, DC Gilgit directed the SSP Gilgit to take special security measures for the polio teams. He directed the SSP Gilgit to ensure children under 5 years of age entering Gilgit. The vehicles should not be allowed to enter city if they do not cooperate with police.

DC Gilgit also instructed the Health Department to conduct training regarding administration of polio drops to children.

He also directed the DD Education Gilgit and DD Private Schools Gilgit to take all possible measures in schools to administer polio drops to children under five years of age. He also directed all Assistant Commissioners to hold meetings at the tehsil level in their respective divisions and give special attention to Union Councils.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the public to fully cooperate with the administration in administering polio drops to children under five years of age.

He instructed all Assistant Commissioners of the three divisions to conduct surveys of remote areas, monitor polio teams there, and submit daily reports.

“Announcements will be made in mosques and community centres regarding the success of the polio campaign. While meetings on daily basis will also be held to evaluate the performance of polio teams”, further added DC Gilgit.
