Gilgit (C.R Akbar Shah): Mother Teresa and Abdul Sattar Edhi will be remembered forever for their services to humanity.
Following in the footsteps of these great people was Sherbaz Khan Hunzai, a humble human being from Gilgit-Baltistan who devoted his life to orphaned and helpless children.
He provided health facilities and shelter to orphaned children and made them productive citizens of society through education and vocational training.
These words were expressed by the people who visited Sherbaz Khan Hunzai s family in Gilgit on Tuesday to offer their condolences on his death.
Late Sher Khan Hunzai was the chairman of Sina Health Center and Aghosh which he established 25 years ago to adopt, nurse, and educate orphans and helpless children in Gilgit-Baltistan.
People are paying their respects to the late Sherbaz Khan Hunzai for his philanthropic services. The late Sherbaz Khan continued to maintain Aghosh in a good manner. The plants planted by his hands have become trees, said the people visiting the aggrieved family for condolences.
People are also expressing their hope that the team of Sherbaz Khan Hunzai would follow in his footsteps and continue his mission.
While paying his respects to the late Sherbaz, Subedar (R) Muhammad Ayub Shah from Yasin Valley expressed condolences on behalf of the people of Yasin. He said that Sherbaz Khan was an angel in human form.
Giving an example of the late Sherbaz Khan’s services, he said that in his village six girls became orphans after the death of their father and mother. There was no one to look after the orphaned girls. Six sisters had no brothers.
No one seemed interested in taking responsibility for these girls. When this news reached the late Sherbaz Khan, he immediately came to Yasin and adopted the girls. He educated them and looked them after like a real father. One of the girls is pursuing a university education in Karachi whereas two have been married.
Speaking on the occasion, Colonel (retd) Imtiaz-ul-Haq said though it is difficult to fill the gap left due to the death of Sherbaz Khan, his legacy will be carried ahead by following in his footsteps.
The directors of the institution, Bulbul Jan Shams, Major Javed Iqbal, and Professor Shahid Ali Khan said that during the illness of the late chairman, all the directors have unanimously handed over the responsibility of the chairman to Mrs. Sherbaz Khan so that the institution can continue to serve the suffering humanity.
It is pertinent to note that Pakistan Army has honored Sher Baz Khan with the highest civil and military honor in recognition of his selfless services. On the contrary, the Gilgit-Baltistan government and local administration have continued to ignore the services of such heroes.
