Yasin (PR): A labour day rally was staged in Yasin Valley of Ghizer Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday, May 1 for the first time under the banner of Awami Action Committee G-B and AWP G-B.
Starting from the Shah Karim market, the rally ended at Tawus Chowk under the banner of the Awami Action Committee.
After reaching Tawus Chowk, the rally took the form of a gathering where hundreds of local people along with political and social activists participated.
While addressing the rally, Awami Workers Party Gilgit-Baltistan leader Sher Nader Shahi said that 98 percent of people in G-B are the poor and oppressed workers who serve the region through their blood and sweat. Only 2% of the total population is exploiting the working class in different forms and manifestations, said Sher Nadir.
Sher Nadir urged the working class to unite against the two percent exploitative class and take away their right from them.
He said that at present the working class of GB craves bread while the dogs of the ruling class eat fine flour. Moreover, the people of G-B are facing power load shedding, clean drinking water, and wheat grains.
He further said that if the government does not pay attention to public issues, the rulers will be in trouble.
Speaking at the rally, Chairman of Public Action Committee Ghizer, Aslam Inqlabi said that there is no holiday for workers even on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, and the workers here are not even aware that May 1 is their day.
He said the biggest hand in misleading the people and violating the rights of the workers is the elites and capitalists who have forced the people to commit suicide.
He said that the children of the workers are being deprived of education by increasing the fees, while a conspiracy is being made to starve the children of the workers by ending the wheat subsidy.
He said that now the time has come for the working people to stand up against these oppressive rulers and take away their rights.
Yasin Youth Forum President Shah Rahim, Awami Action Committee Yasin Vice President Giri Khan, Shakur, and others addressed the rally organized on the occasion of Mazdoor Day and emphasized that the working class should be united against exploitation.
It should be noted that for the first time, a rally was held in Yasin regarding Labor Day and efforts were made to make the workers aware of their day.
