Supreme Appellate Court Takes Action on ATR Flights Safety Concerns in Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit (PR): According to a press release issued to media from Supreme Appellate Court, Chief Justice Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan heard the suo-motu case related to ATR flights of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operating between Gilgit and Islamabad.

During the suo-motu case verdict, Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan raised inquiries about the procurement date and the operational conditions of the ATRs. He sought information regarding the frequent problems faced by these aircraft.

Chief Justice remarked the disorderly conditions of the planes pose a potential threat to the safety of people traveling from Gilgit-Baltistan to Islamabad, as two planes have previously crashed in the mountainous regions.

The Chief Justice, Supreme Appellate Court Gilgit-Baltistan issued an order to Chief Technical Officer PIA and Chief Commercial Officer PIA Islamabad to appear with a complete written report on the next hearing to provide complete details.

It is pertinent to note that the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan had appealed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Appellate Court Gilgit-Baltistan, expressing their concerns that the ATRs in question have exceeded their operational lifespan, and PIA is operating them under significant risk.
