Gilgit (PR): An important session of the Parliamentary Committee Peace was held on Sunday at the Home Secretariat in connection with the tense sectarian situation created in Gilgit-Baltistan over the past week.
Chaired by G-B Interior Minister Shamsul Haq Lone, the meeting was attended by Minister Development Syed Amjad Zaidi, Agriculture Minister Engineer Muhammad Anwar, Assembly members Raja Nasir Ali Khan, Ayub Waziri and Jameel Ahmed.
The session discussed the ongoing law and order situation in Gilgit-Baltistan. It was agreed to take urgent measures to peacefully address the communal unrest in the region.
A unanimous decision was made, emphasizing that ensuring tranquillity in Gilgit-Baltistan is a shared obligation that necessitates collective action.
Considering this, all parties involved, including the government, were urged to recognize the sensitive nature of the matter and discourage extremist tendencies, aiming for the establishment of enduring peace.
The meeting expressed its resolve to play an organized role for inter-ethnic harmony, respect for religious beliefs and sanctities, observance of code of conduct and peaceful co-existence.

The meeting concluded with a decision that the government will prioritize safeguarding the lives and property of the citizens without falling prey to any kind of opportunism.

The meeting also resolved to act against individuals engaging in the disrespect of religious beliefs and sanctities, and strict measures will be taken.
Additionally, it was established that blockage of roads and stage sit-ins on key highways would not be allowed under any circumstances.
The session also resolved to activate a Mosques Board through official notification and create an Ulama Board at the Gilgit-Baltistan level.
This Ulama Board will comprise learned people from various sects, working cohesively to promote unity among Muslims and ensure enduring peace.
It was also decided that strict action will be taken against public servants involved who engage in disseminating hatred throughout social media.
Civil servants involved in communal discussions and activities will be dismissed by taking strict disciplinary action.
The forthcoming agenda of the Parliamentary Committee on Peace includes conducting visits to all districts, including Diamer and Skardu.
The objective is to engage with local religious scholars and community leaders, establishing a cooperative framework to contribute to the maintenance of peace and order.
It was also decided that a Parliamentary Committee on Peace meeting will be held every month so that peace can be maintained, and measures taken at individual and collective levels to thwart the ambitions of miscreants.
