Gilgit (PR): Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Khalid Khurshid chaired a high-level meeting regarding the GB land reforms bill on Monday. He was briefed about the draft of the land reforms Act by commissioners, the settlement officer, and the secretary information.
Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid said that land reforms are being carried out to solve the long-standing problem of unsolved land issues in Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said all barren lands will be distributed among the people to overcome challenges in connection with food security and increase agricultural production. Protecting the rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan is our priority so that their quality of life improves.
CM G-B said the land reforms will help distribute land among people on an equitable basis. G-B is the only province to introduce modern GIS technology to ensure a transparent process of land distribution. All land data will be compiled on GIS bas
He further said due to the lack of land reforms, G-B is facing the problem of a shortage of agricultural commodities. Land reforms are being made in the interest of the local people.
According to a notification of the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, no one has been allotted land in G-B at the individual level since 1986. The agricultural sector could not be promoted much because of this non-allotment of land, said CM G-B.
The meeting was attended by the speaker and deputy Speaker GBLA, chief secretary and home secretary G-B, provincial ministers, special assistants, coordinators, and IGP including all concerned secretaries. The meeting participants also included the commissioners, deputy Commissioners, settlement Officer, and revenue officer participated.
It was agreed in the meeting that the consultation process will continue at various levels to further improve the land reforms act.
